4 Ways To Improve Your Chances Of Getting Pregnant

Published

on

Getting pregnant is a lot harder than what they taught you in high school. According to experts, healthy women under 35 years old only have a 26% chance of getting pregnant even if they are trying. And these odds gradually decrease while a woman is getting older. So if, you are wanting to get pregnant, read our tips from the experts:

Be Healthy

First things first, you must take care of your body before planning to get pregnant. If you are overweight, try to shed some of those pounds. Being obese can lower the chances of you getting pregnant because fat cells have an effect on estrogen production. Being underweight is bad too as you will have a low hormone count needed for ovulation. In men, being overweight leads to low testosterone level and poor sperm quality. Consult a nutritionist for pregnancy diets and what to eat. They can give you strategies on how to achieve a better weight to help your odds of getting pregnant.

Avoid Bad Habits

Research has proven that women who smoke cigarettes have a lower chance of getting pregnant and a higher risk of infertility. Studies have also shown thatsmoking increases risk of miscarriage and other complications during pregnancy. Effects of smoking marijuana before pregnancy are not fully understood yet but it has been linked to lower weight of the baby during birth. Smoking is also bad for aspiring dads as it gradually decreases sperm count and quality. Future parents must also abstain from drinking alcoholic drinks because it has serious consequences to the baby such as birth defects and mental illnesses. If you are addicted to caffeine, it is time to cutback. Experts have discovered that lowering caffeine consumption can significantly boost chances of making a baby. So stay away from all caffeinated food such as coffee, soda and even chocolates.

Take Prenatal Vitamins

If you haven’t started taking multivitamins, then do it now. Studies show that you need specific kinds of vitamins to prevent possible heart and limb defects on your future kids. Women who have iron deficiency can experience bad egg quality and sometimes even stop developing eggs. Experts say you must take prenatal vitamins that have a high dosage of vitamin D and folic acid while you are trying to get pregnant. Prenatal vitamins help fill the gaps in the mother’s diet. Also indulge yourself in vitamin B6 as it helps in the absorption of other vitamins in the body.

Know The Right Timing

Knowing the days when you are highly fertile is the most important factor in getting pregnant. If a woman has a normal menstrual cycle, she would ovulate 14 days before her next period but not everyone has this kind of predictable cycle. You must also take note of changes in your body that gives you signals that you are ovulating. These include taking notes of your basal body temperature. It is usually measured as a slight decrease in body temperature followed by a sudden increase as soon as a woman ovulates. Another way is to notice changes in the woman’s cervical mucus before ovulation. Or you can just buy an ovulation predictor kid from the drugstore which gives an accurate data of when you are ovulating. As a couple, you may want to speak with a doctor to talk about ways to have a higher success rate of pregnancy.

It can be a little bit frustrating but pregnancy does not happen right away. Keep trying and be adventurous. Try to be patient because this is normal. Stay relaxed and follow these tips to increase your chances of finally getting that positive result you have been waiting for.
