Green Tea Extract
|
Green
Tea is second only to water as the most consumed beverage in the
world. There are large volumes of published scientific findings
that validate Green Tea's multiple biological benefits. The most
significant findings involve studies showing that Green Tea extract
helps maintain cellular DNA and inhibits the development of undesirable
cell colonies. The active constituents in Green Tea are powerful
antioxidants called polyphenols (catechins) and flavonols. Several
catechins are present in Green Tea and account for the bulk of
favorable research reports. Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is
the most powerful of these catechins. EGCG functions as an antioxidant
that is approximately 25-100 times more potent than Vitamins C
and E. Theoretically, the high antioxidant activity of Green Tea
makes it beneficial for protecting the body from oxidative damage
due to free radicals.

Acai Berry
|
Pronounced ah-sigh-EE, the Acai Berry is a small, round, black-purple drupe about 1 inch in diameter with a single large seed. It's nutritious value comes from the skin and pulp and not the seed. This fruit is found in the Amazon rainforests of South America. Despite being small, Acai is considered one of the most powerful antioxidants. It is available in many forms and sold as drinks and capsules. Acai is renowned for its weight loss properties as well as boosting energy levels, improving digestive function, helping with mental clarity, strengthening the immune system, and slowing the aging process, along with other benefits.

Resveratrol
|
Resveratrol
is a polyphenol compound found largely in the skins of red grapes,
with high concentrations in red wine. It has been used for centuries
in Asian medicine to treat diseases of the blood vessels, heart
and liver and is a possible explanation for the "French Paradox"
(i.e. a diet high in fat but low in heart disease). Other plants
such as eucalyptus, spruce, and lily, and foods including mulberries
and peanuts also contain Resveratrol. Resveratrol possesses anti-oxidative
and anti-inflammatory qualities and may provide anti-cancer benefits
as well. Resveratrol may prolong life and helps fight age-related
diseases. Research suggests that at high doses, Resveratrol appears to prolong the lifespan and health of mice. Human studies are currently being conducted.

Pomegranate Extract
|
The
pomegranate's yellowish-pink, seedy fruit has been a staple of Asian
diets since ancient times. In ancient Greek myth, the pomegranate
represents life and regeneration. Its herbal use dates back more
than 3,000 years, but contemporary science has rediscovered the
pomegranate's effectiveness in preventing a variety of potentially
deadly diseases. Dozens of recent studies reveal pomegranate's surprising
array of benefits. Pomegranates contain powerful antioxidants that
promote heart and blood pressure health. In addition, Pomegranate
Extract has demonstrated strong immune-benefiting properties. Pomegranate
has also been shown to be effective in helping to alleviate mood
issues associated with menopause. One of the active constituents
in Pomegranate Extract is Ellagic acid. Ellagic acid is a detoxifying
agent and has demonstrated DNA-protecting properties, including
the ability to bind to and neutralize toxins.

| Blueberry |
When
researchers analyzed fruits and vegetables for their antioxidant
capability, Blueberries came out on top, rating highest in their
capacity to destroy free radicals. Most recently, scientists have
discovered mechanisms to explain how Blueberries can promote memory
and restore healthy neuronal function to aged brains. Blueberries
also help maintain healthy blood flow.

| Coenzyme Q-10 |
Also known as ubiquinone, Coenzyme Q-10 (CoQ10) is a powerful antioxidant and a natural substance found in every cell in the body. It plays a fundamental role in the mitochondria, the parts of the cell that produce energy from food. CoQ10 is essential for energy production in the body's cells, especially the heart, which has extraordinary energy requirements. Levels of CoQ10 drop with age and are lower in people with heart disease. In fact, the more severe the heart disease, the lower the CoQ10 levels are thought to be. Moreover, some commonly prescribed medications, such as the Statin drugs, prescribed for high cholesterol and beta-blockers such as Propranalol for high blood pressure and angina, may reduce blood levels of CoQ10 in the body as well, making supplementation with CoQ10 even more essential.
|
| Lutein |
Lutein acts as a powerful antioxidant that neutralizes harmful free radicals which can damage cells, particularly the sensitive cells of the eyes. Lutein is the primary carotenoid found in the central area of the retina of the eye called the macula, which is the part used for sharp vision. Lutein is associated with protection for age-related macular degeneration (the leading cause of blindness in older adults).
|
| Quercetin |
Quercetin is a naturally occurring flavanoid that can be found in varying fruits and vegetables. It is most commonly found in apples, cherries, raspberries, red grapes, some citrus fruits, leafy vegetables, broccoli, onions, green and black teas, and red wine. Quercetin has demonstrated significant anti-inflammatory activities and may help patients with chronic prostatitis, heart disease, cataracts, allergies, asthma, and has also been described to possess positive effects in helping to prevent cancer. Individuals taking anti-coagulants or antibiotics in the fluoroquinolone family (examples include: Levaquin, Cipro, Avelox, and others) should be cautious when taking Quercetin and it is always prudent to contact your doctor for further advice.

Acetyl
L-Carnitine |
Acetyl-L-Carnitine
( ALC ) is a natural nutrient supplement recognized as a powerful
cognition enhancer and life-extension agent. ALC is also considered
to be an important anti-aging complex that has shown success in
helping to combat depression in the elderly. Acetyl L-Carnitine
is an amino acid-like compound related to choline. It may assist
in the conversion of choline into acetylcholine, one of the body's
key brain chemicals. Acetyl L-Carnitine (an acetylated ester of
the amino acid L-carnitine) is used by the body to transport fats
into the mitochondria where they can be metabolized to produce energy
in the cells. Normal aging processes can severely impair this transport
of L-carnitine from the liver to the bloodstream and other areas
of the body. Supplemental ALC is more digestible than unesterified
L-carnitine, and is able to rapidly enter the circulatory system
and improve transport efficiency. The use of supplemental Acetyl
L-Carnitine as an agent to enhance cognition and reduce problems
associated with mental impairment and senile dementia is based on
an impressive body of studies documenting ALC's benefits. ALC has
been shown to increase neuronal metabolism and cerebral blood flow,
increasing the activity of neurotransmitters and dopamine. Researchers
have also found that ALC enhances energy metabolism at the cellular
level, inhibiting damage caused by hypoxia (oxygen starvation) while
aiding the heart, lungs, immune system and brain.

| Ginkgo
biloba Extract |
Gingko
biloba can aid many age-related concerns and has been featured in
the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association. Ginkgo
is one of today's most popular and studied herbs for promoting memory
and concentration. Ginkgo biloba Extract promotes healthy circulation
to the brain, which helps nourish brain cells. The most impressive
clinical trials on ginkgo have used an extract that has isolated
the potency of two important natural compounds in the plant: 24%
flavoglycosides and 6% terpene lactones. These two compounds are
what scientists believe provide ginkgo's benefits.

DHA
(Docasahexaenoic Acid) |
Docosahexaenoic
acid (DHA) belongs to the class of nutrients called essential fatty
acids. In the body, DHA is found mostly in the brain, retina, and
in sperm and is vital to maintaining healthy vision. Docosahexaenoic
acid (DHA) is an omega-3 fatty acid which plays a significant role
in cerebral development, especially during the crucial period of
fetal development and infancy. Pregnant mothers transfer DHA directly
to the fetus to support rapid brain and retina development. DHA
is supplied to the newborn via mother's breast milk. Some people
have lower concentrations of DHA due to low-fat or vegetarian diets.
Supplementation with DHA can help assure adequate amounts to support
normal development of the brain and retina.

| Vinpocetine |
Widely
used in Europe and South America to boost mental energy, Vinpocetine
is a derivative of vincamine, a key component of the periwinkle
plant. Research suggests Vinpocetine may improve cognitive performance
and short-term memory loss that is sometimes experienced with stress
or aging. Vinpocetine also plays a role in supporting cerebral circulation
and cognitive function.
